The Barnwood Industrial Archaeology & Transport Society are a longstanding section of the S&SC who have met over the years for talks and outings on a diverse range of topics relating to local industrial heritage – these have included included the Gloster Aircraft Company, Cotswold Canals, Ledbury Brewery and the Thames Severn Canal.
The postponed BIATS AGM was held in February 2018 to discuss the future of the section.
Following this meeting, the group is set to continue, giving like-minded people interested in industrial and transport topics the opportunity to get together to share their enthusiasm and to enjoy the social aspects. The group would be very keen to hear from potential new members and from anyone willing to take on organising walks & visits and speakers for the talks.
Talks have generally been held in the Barnwood Pavilion during the winter months on Monday evenings from 7pm to 10pm. These have been swapped to outings to sites of interest during the summer with times and locations advertised on an individual basis via the Events page and the RMA Newsletter. Events for Spring/Summer 2018 are currently being planned.
