BIATS – Industrial Archaeology

The Barnwood Industrial Archaeology & Transport Society are a longstanding section of the S&SC who have met over the years for talks and outings on a diverse range of topics relating to local industrial heritage – these have included included the Gloster Aircraft Company, Cotswold Canals, Ledbury Brewery and the Thames Severn Canal.

Unfortunately, the group is not in a position to continue regular activities as present.

Ideally, the group would love to continue, giving like-minded people interested in industrial and transport topics the opportunity to get together to share their enthusiasm and to enjoy the social aspects.  If there are any potential new members out there, inlcuding anyone willing to take on organising walks & visits and/or speakers for the talks, this could re-vitalise the group.  Do contact Frank to discuss possibilities if you might be interested.

Talks were usually held in the Barnwood Pavilion during the winter months on Monday evenings.  These then swapped to outings to sites of interest during the summer with times and locations advertised on an individual basis via the Events page and the RMA Newsletter.

For more details the section is contact Frank Colls, his contact details are available in the RMA newsletter or via Anna.eaton@edf-energy.com in the S&SC Office.
