BIATS Talk – Mon 16th Feb – Steam Dredger

BIATS are meeting at 7.30pm on Monday 16th February in the S&SC Pavilion at Barnwood for the next in their series of monthly talks.

The talk will be on The Renaissance of Steam Powered Dredger SND No. 4 and will be given by RMA Member Richard Trelfa.

Since capsizing in 1990 the dredger has been cared for by the Friends of Gloucester Waterways Museum and in 2012 was taken out of service with boiler tube leaks.  A succesful £43,300 HLF bid and work by a team led by retired Oldbury Shift Charge Engineer Ken Dunn, who sadly passed away last year, has cured the problem.  Afte dry-dock repairs, hydraulic and SV testing SND No 4 has been returned to service.  Richard’s work will be illustrated with scenes of the work.

ALL WELCOME! Enquiries to Frank Colls on 01452 538366.
