Tennis Tournaments at Barnwood

With Wimbledon just behind us and the sunny weather still here, the tennis section is running a series of charity competitions. Last year, we had a successful Men’s singles, Men’s Doubles and a Mixed doubles, so building on these successes we are planning to run some further events.

If you have been inspired by the performances of Roger Federer, Simona Halep and Andy Murray or just want to play some tennis and meet other tennis players, then why not join us for this year’s tennis events.

We are currently planning to run 3 different events in 2019, although more may be available depending on interest and numbers wishing to take part.

Mixed Singles Leagues – recognising there is a wide range in standard of players within EDF Energy, we are running a singles box league. This allows players of a similar level to play against each other to ensure some competitive and fun tennis. The league format results in everyone getting to play a number of games in each round with promotion and relegation to ensure that players have the opportunity to keep playing competitive tennis as they gain more confidence and improve their skills.

Mixed Doubles Round robin – Starting soon we will be running a mixed doubles tournament. Building on the successful tournament last year, we are hoping for more entrants to get even more people playing in this event. Please don’t worry if you don’t have a partner as we will try and match players up wherever possible. If you are interested in playing some mixed doubles tennis please register your interest. We are hoping to start the competition soon.

Men’s Doubles – for later in the year, we will be running a men’s doubles competition. More on this to follow in future updates.

If anyone is interested in getting involved in tennis and taking part in one of the competitions, please contact Tom Reynolds or Paul Elders to register your interest.
